Baccarat Players and Tracing Indicators

Although it is often said that Baccarat gambling is entirely a game of chance, this is not necessarily the case. If the shoe, which may contain six or more decks, was randomly shuffled every deal then it would be a game of pure chance, however, that is not the case. To completely randomize a six deck shoe takes a minimum of seven perfect riffling shuffles which would take far too long and would hold up play, consequently a substantial part of the shoe is played without any shuffling taking place. This means that rather than every hand being a completely independent event, as the shoe is depleted of cards as the game is played, the chances of certain card combinations vary over the course of the game. They way in which they do so and the manner in which this affects the subsequent deals is immensely complex; it is far more complicated than in games such as blackjack. However, there remains a theoretical possibility that if a detailed record of previous hands was kept and fully analysed, then some indicator of changes to future probabilities could be made. These probability modifications would be very small, but as baccarat is a game with a very small house edge even tiny advantages could be important, especially when some high roll players might wager hundreds of thousands of pounds in a single evening. In order to track the perceived changes in hand probabilities a number of tracker or tracing indicators are used and published by the casino. These have their own names and can be quite complex. Typical examples are Cockroach Road, Big Eye Road, Bead Road, Big Road and Small Road. In times gone by players would maintain their own records by marking cards, though in this computerised age they are now done automatically at online and real casinos; note that they are only relevant in real casinos that feature live baccarat dealers as those that use random number generators virtually deal the cards after every round. All tracing indicators are presented as grids on which the results of previous hands are indicated using symbols. Although many players believe that they are useful, the patterns of the game are so complex that even if there are predictable trends then it is unlikely that existing tracing indicators are able to identify them.
